BIALE 11 ZN BLACK CHICKEN
Just like PB&J, or even stars & stripes, Robert Biale and Zinfandel go hand in hand. Few other producers of Zin can put out a stable of workhorse bottlings like Biale does. In the barn behind the chicken coops, Aldo Biale had some Zinfandel for the family, but he quickly learned that the wine was worth more than the grapes. So, “Black Chicken” was code for the wine, as not to alert the neighbors, but the secret could only be held for so long! Always their most popular bottling, the Black Chicken Zin was hand sorted in the field, and again at the winery to ensure only the best grapes would go into the wine.Keeping in line with its predecessors, the 2011 has a lovely, brilliant deep ruby color, silky tannins, bright blackberry, raspberry and juicy cherry fruit; textural round mouthfeel, toasted nuts, allspice, dried herb, and a hint of five-spice. Drinkable now, it will continue to improve over the next 3-4 years.
