Dry, crisp, and impeccably clean, this wine delivers delicious flavors of white flowers, pepper, and pink grapefruit, underscoredby an attractive leesiness - quintessential value Grüner Veltliner. And we love the un-ceremoniousness of the crown cap!

with food - especially with all of those no-no items that you're not supposed to pair with wine, like artichokes, bitter greens, asparagus, etc.-- there is simply nothing in world of wine like Grüner. This entry-level Grüner from the estate of Willi Bründlmayer, whom many consider to be Austria's best, shows us in spades everything for which Grüner is so beloved: a rich, yet crisp and firm collage of stone and citrus fruits - supported by hints of edamame, daikon, and sweet pea - that is supported by a core of complex, savory minerality, which informs you that this wine is from Terrassen or terraced vineyard sites. A great example of the genre, and an incredibly versatile factotum at the table; get it while it lasts!

The Glatzer 2011 Gruner Veltliner Dornenvogel is dry and crisp (like most Gruners) but has much richer flavor and a rounder mouthfeel than many.

The vineyards of Murfatlar, on the Black sea, happen to have what Pinot Noir requires. The soil is hardly soil at all. It is really more gravel and rock, made mostly of limestone. Read More...
While this may not sound like a very good place for, say, tomatoes; it is exactly what makes for excellent Pinot Noir grapes.
The aroma is of ripe strawberries, red berries and strangely enough, saffron. There is some aspect of terroir or "sense of place" with Murfatlar Pinot Noir. The wine has excellent fruit, with soft strawberry and red fruit flavors which become more structured and angular towards the crisp finish.

site is one of the 5-10 greatest bits of land on which Riesling grows. David Schildknecht, the Austrian wine critic for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, once called it a "torrential force of nature."
Recently awarded 95 Points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, the 2007 Nikolaihof-Wachau Steiner Hund Reserve represents yet another spectacular rendition of one of the world's greatest dry white wines. From the great, old bio-dynamic estate of Nikolaihof-Wachau in Austria 's Wachau, often referred to as Austria 's "greatest producer," the Steiner Hund, or "rocky dog" gets its name by virtue of the fact that this tiny vineyard site is so mercilessly steep and rocky it's almost impossible to harvest. Made in the great estate's inimitably contemplative, arch-traditional style, this is a wine to make you think now, but make you dream after a decade or two of cellaring.
We were lucky enough to procure just a few six-packs of this rare wine, so supply is very limited.
WINE ADVOCATE 95 POINTS- "The 2007 Riesling Steiner Hund Reserve is the current offering of this bottling from Nikolaihof, and the 2008 was in fact still in cask at the time of my June visit. Lemon and orange rinds; high-toned green herbs; and intimations of crushed stone lend the aromas a penetratingly pungent cast and persist across this wine-s sumptuous, glossy, and (even at only 12.5% alcohol) glycerin-enhanced palate - brimming with fresh white peach and grapefruit and underlain with rich nut oils - and into a finish of kaleidoscopic, shimmeringly interactive complexity and irresistible, saliva-inducing savor. This will be worth following for at least the better part of two decades."
