AUGUST WEST 09 CH ROSELLA'S
The August West 2009 Rosella's Vineyard Chardonnay is comprised entirely of Dijon Clone 76. The 1.4 tons yielded from the '09 harvest produced 3 barrels, or just 72 cases! Of the 3 barrels, 2 were neutral French oak, and 1 was a new Cadus cooperage barrel. Cadus is one of the most subtle barrels available, so the oak impact in the wine is very well-integrated.The '09 Rosella's Chardonnay appears at this stage to be headed for a long, slow development in the bottle. This 2009 Rosella's is quite closed in the nose and actually requires some air time to begin to reveal its origins. The fragrant Santa Lucia Highlands bouquet of tropical and citrus fruits emerges in the glass and also shows a well-balanced palate with plenty of acidity for aging.
