foreign investment, globalization, and many other factors (all in the name of progress), threaten the great agricultural tradition of winegrowing in France, arguably the world’s greatest winegrowing culture. Few domaines in France embody this way of life more ably and proudly than Domaine Albert Boxler in Niedermorschwihr. Jean Boxler, many generations removed from his ancestor of the same name that moved here from Switzerland in 1673, currently rules the roost at this humble yet incredibly exciting domaine. Intense and serious about his land, his craft, and his wine, Jean is the genius behind what are certainly some of the finest white wines in Alsace (and the world).

fine and very elegant. The Rotenberg is enjoyable quite young, fresh and aerial with its lemon frame, very aromatic and light on the palate!

Stephen Tanzer 90 Points-"Bright straw. A fusel quality complicates tangerine and blood orange on the expressive nose. Chewy, rich and rather full-bodied, with ripe apricot and peach flavors complemented by anise and licorice notes. The smooth, rich finish lingers nicely with repeating anise and licorice nuances. This has a more evolved nose than the 2011, which I found surprising given that 2010 was the cooler, higher-acid vintage."

by the Vosges sandstone. The result is a rich, ageable wine of nobility, which magically combines an impression of strong extract with a weightless quality, very impressive.

ANTONIO GALLONI 95 POINTS - "Bright, deep yellow. Ripe, vibrant aromas of white peach, lemon zest, chamomile and balsamic herb are complicated by lemony botrytis. Silky on entry, then round and fresh in the middle, with terrific lemony cut providing excellent energy. Really resonates on the floral, saline, tactile back end, leaving the taste buds vibrating under a lemon meringue and peach sheen. In terms of richness this seems to fall between the Mambourg and the Altenberg; it usually needs more time in the cellar than the wines from either one of those sites. In ten years' time this will be intensely mineral rather than tropical, the latter quality more typical of the Altenberg and especially the Mambourg. Best from 2018-2034

Baptiste Adam current owner like the estate’s former owners, has a reputation for being an advocate of Alsatian terroir. Eager to restore Kuentz-Bas to its former glory, Adam lowered yields significantly and reverted to natural methods, following organic and biodynamic approaches to vineyard work. Reduced doses of sulfur allow for a greater expression of fruit, and a drier fermentation yields crisp, mineral-laden wines with less residual sugar.
WINE ENTHUSIAST - "Fine, soft and round, this is a simple Pinot Blanc that’s fruity and creamy. Apples and pears dominate the fruit flavors, with a texture that is open and ready to drink."

with a history incorporating French and German traditions, the wines have benefited from both. And for those of us on staff who unabashedly love French and German wines, is this not perfect? Is is-- and especially with turkey. The nose has notions of peach pit, apricot zest, sweet brown spice and a touch of river water minerality. The palate is rich and viscous with both light sweetness and acidity. On the palate, peach and apricot flavors resound, more brown spices and river rock notes surface, a touch of citrus keeps it fresh as we meander to the long, tasty finish.

and pineapple notes with pleasantly bitter hints of pink grapefruit peel and green papaya, with a touch of curry spices. A rich style, but balanced nonetheless. Drink now through 2020. 1,100 cases made." –AN

eROBERT PARKER 89 POINTS: "A deeply-golden 2008 Gewurztraminer Kessler smells multifariously and enticingly of grilled pineapple, bacon, malt, and a maritime medley of salt spray, fresh scallop, and poached oysters. Subtly honeyed; oily in texture; this wine’s sweet tropical fruit flavors are suffused with the aforementioned, sweetness-offsetting, enticing, and mouthwatering maritime elements, which – along with significant bitterness – inform the sustained finish. This will be best drunk over the next 5-7 years, although it might well keep longer. (My only experience with significantly aged Schlumberger bottlings was from an era when the style was quite different.)"

youth than the legendary Clos St Hune, this is Alsace at its best!

eROBERT PARKER 93 POINTS: "The Trimbach 2006 Riesling Cuvee Frederic Emile displays almost cinnamon-like as well as gingery sweet spicy pungency, a legacy of advanced ripeness and a touch of botrytis. Ripe strawberry, blood orange, and pink grapefruit add to the rather decadent allure here, following on an opulent palate, whose subtly oiliness of texture and honeyed cast give further testimony to noble rot. Yet for all of its far-gone, exotic ripeness, there is persistent refreshment here and a sense of lift rather than weight. A strikingly long, succulent finish is touched with quinine and citrus rind bitterness. (The alcohol here is only a bit over 13% in alcohol, incidentally.) After the release later this year I would start enjoying this unforgettable if far from classic Frederic Emile, and while it might well surprise me and hold up well for longer than another 3-5 years after that, I would advise it me monitored closely ,while waiting on the more classic and in time more impressive 2005.

”The yeasts were very efficient in 2007,” notes Jean Trimbach, pointing to a collection of wines several of which are below one gram in residual sugar. The grapes and people did good work, too: I cannot recall a collection at this address that was more consistently fine. Only three special bottlings were essayed by Trimbach in 2006, all Riesling, of which the Frederic Emile and Clos Ste. Hune are among the high points of this vintage in Alsace."
