ANTHILL FARMS 2013 PINOT NOIR "CAMPBELL RANCH" SONOMA COAST 750mL

This vineyard is located a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, near the tiny town of Annapolis, and is farmed by Steve Campbell. At approximately 750 feet above sea level, it sits right at the boundary of the marine layer, ensuring that the cool, coastal climate delays ripening well beyond the warmer vineyards to the east. The fourteen-year-old vines grow on sandy, low-vigor Goldridge soil, which helps reduce yields to near two tons per acre.

ANTONIO GALLONI 93+ POINTS - "Anthill Farms is on a roll. Anthony Filiberti seems to have the magic touch when it comes to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah, as these new releases are brilliant. Even though they had been bottle not to long before my visit, the 2013s shows very well. Filiberti describes 2013 as an intense growing season with a harvest tha last three weeks instead of the more typical 2 months or so. As always, the Anthill wines are made in a lifted, aromatic style, with considerable stem influence and an expression of fruit that seeks ripeness at lower sugar levels. Aging in mostly neutral oak seems to allow the unique personalities of each of these sites to be expressive. Pinots make up the largest part of the range, but I personally am a huge fan of Syrah. These remain some of the most distinctive wines being made in California today. Best of all, prices remain incredibly sane. The only problem is finding the wines, as production is extremely limited."

"Anthill's 2013 Pinot Noir Campbell Ranch Vineyard is pungent and bold, with expressive savory aromatics, layered fruit and fabulous overall balance. This is one of the darker, more brooding wines in the range. Crushed flowers, mint, raspberries and pine are laced into the textured, super-expressive finish. Readers will have to give the 2013 a bit of time in bottle for the firm, incisive tannins to soften after which the wine should be absolutely fabulous. There is a lot to look forward to in the Campbell Ranch."
